AI can do two things for your wallet: stop the bleeding, and start the earning. Do them in that order.
First: stop bleeding money
Before you make a dime with AI, plug the holes. Most people are paying for subscriptions they forgot about or barely use. Copy these prompts into any AI chatbot and go fix it:
The subscription audit: “Act as a ruthless budget analyst. Here are my monthly subscriptions: [paste your list with prices]. Tell me which ones overlap, which ones have free alternatives that are just as good, and how much I’d save per year by cutting or downgrading. Be brutal.”
Stretch the free tier: “Compare the free plan vs the paid plan of [tool name]. Tell me exactly what the paid plan unlocks, and whether someone who [describe what you use it for] would actually hit the free plan’s limits. If I wouldn’t, say so.”
The cancellation call: “Act as a negotiation coach. I’m about to cancel [service] because [reason]. Write me a short, polite message asking if they have a retention discount or a cheaper plan before I go. Firm but friendly.”
Roxie: “And actually cancel the ones you don’t use. The prompt doesn’t do the canceling. You do.”
Then: make money with it
Saving money is defense. Here’s the offense — real ways regular people are making money with AI right now. No lambo promises. Just the plays.
1. AI-assisted freelancing. Businesses pay for outcomes, not tools. Offer writing, design tweaks, video captions, data cleanup — and use AI to do it three times faster. You bring the judgment, AI brings the speed.
Roxie: “Don’t sell ‘AI services.’ Sell what the client wants — the blog posts, the product descriptions. Nobody pays for the tool.”
2. The content engine. A newsletter, a YouTube channel, a review site (hi). AI handles research drafts and first cuts; you handle taste and honesty. Monetize with affiliates and sponsors once the audience shows up.
3. Automation for local businesses. Most small businesses are drowning in busywork: missed calls, slow follow-ups, unanswered reviews. Set up simple AI automations for them and charge monthly. Highest dollars-per-hour on this list.
4. Digital products. Prompt packs, templates, planners, guides. Build once, sell forever. AI helps you make them fast; your experience makes them worth buying.
5. Print-on-demand. AI image tools plus a print-on-demand store. Designs cost you minutes instead of designer fees. Crowded market, so niche down hard.
6. AI consulting for your industry. You know something AI doesn’t: your industry. Package AI workflows for a specific job and sell the implementation. The riches are in the niches.
Where to start
Learn the skill first, then pick ONE idea and run it for 30 days. Dabblers make nothing. Finishers make money.
